Life after Layoff

Well I guess I better give you another tip to surviving a Layoff.

If you are not yet Layed off or have not had to face a layoff as of yet, it is a great time to start preparing for what could possibly lay in waiting for you in the near future.

No I don’t have some insight into your future but with the economy heading the way it is right now…is it really that hard to predict?

I never dreamed of planning for a Layoff until it was dumped on me, and I had no time to prepare or to make any kind of plans for my future.

Just so happened that I had a very generous son named Keith Wellman that had a plan prepared to show me which involved me starting up my own online business.

So one of the first things you need to do is to start planning for your future right now.  Never wait and just hope that a Layoff is never going to happen to you.

You need to make a plan about your future right now, as you will have enough time to ponder or worry about over your finances and career. It is time for you to take a good long and hard look at what it is that you want to do in life and how your career is shaping up.

One thing a layoff forces you to do is this… It forces you to really take a look at where your job or carreer was heading and if there is still any promise of a career left in the likely event that you never are called back to your current possition.

What is it that life holds for you now?

Start taking a look at your passions and your strengths.  Is there anything you kind of just placed into the back of your mind for safe keeping, and when you placed it there you said, “someday”

Well that someday may have just arrived.  It may be just the time to bring that dream out into the open and dust it off and take another very good look at it.  If not know…can I ask you when will you ever get around to it?

What is it that you are really passionate about that could lead you to new opportunities.  What kind of strengths do you have that could lead you to a new career, such as maybe your a good public speaker, you like to teach, you like to help others, good with kids, etc…  I hear all of the time I really do not know what it is that I could possibly do and the answer is right there under your nose.

I remember when I found out that I was facing a layoff, all I could do is wonder, “now what are you going to do Jeff?”  It was hard for me to really think about my dreams and hopes that I had placed in the back of my mind, as all of the worry and doubts were filling every available space in my mind that I had left.

Instead of thinking of what I could possibly do I was worried about what would happen to me and my family now.  It took someone on the outside to say, “hey Dad, what if you did something like this?”

There is life past layoff… Life will keep going on…

I know it was hard to imagine for me at first but I found out life keeps moving, and it was not going to wait foer me to figure out what I was going to do next.

Just remember if you ever want to see a sunset you have to quit heading east…in other words there has to be some change that takes place…You have to head into a different direction.

What can you do right now that will allow you to see the sunset.

You may never face a layoff which is great but maybe you know someone that has or soon will.  Help them see the sunset as well.

There is life after a Layoff and Ia m living proof that you can survive and things can even be better than what they were before layoff.

Successful Comeback Plan After a Layoff

Law Firms Feel Strain of Layoffs and Cutbacks
Foxnews-GM to Close Nine Plants, Lay Off 30,000
TCS and IBM layoffs – Is Indian IT industry headed for a slowdown?

Every time I turn on the news channel I hear of some other company that is getting ready to layoff more of their workers or getting ready to shut down completely.

As to many people are familiar with already including myself a Layoff is the temporary suspension or permanent termination of employment of an employee or (more commonly) a group of employees in my case, for business reasons, such as the decision that a company decides that certain positions are no longer necessary or due to economy or business slow-down or the interruption in work.

Originally the term “layoff” referred exclusively to a temporary interruption in work, as when seasonal factory work would slow down, and you got to take a seasonal layoff, with the expectation of returning when things picked back up.

However, lately it seems that the word layoff is more pertaining to the permanent elimination of positions as a cost-cutting measure (or for other reasons) including, downsize, rightsize, smartsize, workforce reduction or workforce optimization, simplification and reduction in force. Or outsourcing to another company where they can hire cheaper labor.

Basically just a bunch of fancy words to say, “We are so sorry, but we have to tell you that you are not needed anymore, and no longer will have a job with our company anymore.

No matter what words the company decides to use…Layoff’s just plain hurt.

I Have seen people actually go weeks pretending they are working when they actually have been laid off just so they don’t have to break the news to their spouse.  They feel like they are letting that person down and they hope to spare the pain and the stress they are going through from their spouse or loved ones.

I still remember the feeling I felt the day that I was told along with several other fellow employees that due to low sales we would no longer be needed.  This came after several months of the company already cutting our hours way back to the point we were not really surviving as it was.

Our hearts just plain sank… What now?  Already I was stressed out due to not being able to keep up with the bills and having to deal with my phone ringing everyday with someone on the other end asking me when I was going to be able to pay my mortgage or vehicle payment, or letting me know the shut off date to my electric or phone.

I can still remember my in-laws coming over and we would always just let the phone ring while they were there so we didn’t have to deal with it.  But they knew.  Doesn’t makes you feel like the big provider for the family when your in-laws are there and they know you are not making it.

I  know it wasn’t anything I had control of but it still makes you feel pretty bad.

Well since that time I have gained control over my life and have become my own boss.  I learned from my son Keith Wellman how to create and information product and get joint venture partners to join forces and sell my product to a targeted audience and earn a living online, and run my very own online business.

I remember the day I walked into my Boss’s office and told him I was laying him off and that I would be running my own company.  What a great feeling that was.  Sure it was a little scary at the time…(OK it was a lot scary) but I had nothing to loose.  I was already being laid off anyways

Everything I worked for for the last 30 years of my life was being taken from me and I had no control of the situation. It was time I stopped believing and trusting a system that had worked for me for over 30 years.  That system was, ”Get up in the morning to an alarm clock, go to work, put in my days work and as much overtime as I possibly could just to survive and then come home tired and ready to go to bed so that I could get up in the morning and do it all again.”

Some system hey…Well it was what I knew and what I was familiar with…and it always seemed to work but not anymore.  To many people are finding this out right along with me and maybe one of them is you.

But before you leave I want to give you some quick tips that will help you right now to begin to have a successful comeback from a layoff.

Starting right now you have to learn to fight your fears and apprehensions that come from having gone through a layoff, like How will I keep going, Will this happen again after I go through the trouble of job hunting, what do others think of me, etc.  You need to and defeat these feelings. It all begins by developing a winner’s attitude.

You need to know that you can do whatever you set out to do. Start finding that winner’s mindset right away. Don’t worry what others think of you.Being laid off from work usually was not your choice, and was out of your control Remember it wasn’t you that failed…it is a system that failed you.

Being laid off from work is a time to take action… You need to start fighting back agains things that will hold you back if you let them.

I remember feeling self-doubt, anger, embarrassment, and even resent against the ones that still had a job because I knew that my dedication to my job was of high quality and some of the ones I seen keep a job just didn’t seem like they cared or appreciated what they had.  If I would have held on to those feelings and negative emotions I would not be where I am today.

If you remain depressed and begin to shut yourself off for any length of time you will begin to do more harm to yourself than the layoff has already done to you.  Remember the bills are not going to quit coming.  If you want to begin to see results you need to get yourself back up on your feet and begin putting together a good action plan that you can begin to execute.

I know you may have heard this before and may not want to hear it again but… A layoff just might be the best thing to happen to you.  It sure was for me.

When your ready I would like to introduce you to something new that will allow you to take back the financial control over your life and start living the dreams that God intended for you to live.  I want you to be able to find the same kind of financial freedom that I have and the awesome feeling of being able to walk into your boss’s office and handing him the pink slip.  That is if he hasn’t already given you yours.

In the meantime check out my very first online product that generated me over $104,349 in just under 30 days… http://www.layoffyourboss.com , and yes it is possible for you as well, and I can show you how.

Let me know how the economic slowdown has effected you.  If you have a story about being laid off from work and the struggles you have or are facing I would like to hear about it.  In return I will share a way you can fight back and gain control over your finances once again.

Jeff wellman’s Tips To Finding Joint Venture Partners In Any Niche Market

Where to find Joint Venture Partners in any Niche Market

One of the most asked questions I get during any coaching session is, “How do I get Joint Venture Partners and where do I look for them in my Niche.

Identifying potential Joint Venture (JV) partners is relatively easy online as there are so many places to locate them, and I will get right to revealing some of the many ways.

Here’s a few examples :

Google/Search Engine Strategy

One of the first ways we need to look into is the use of Google or search engine strategy.  Your very first step is one that you have done so many times before, and that is you need to open up Google, or your favorite search engin and type in your niche keyword. Google will search for other Internet marketers and businesses that are in your niche.

Search the paid and non paid listings and find the contact information for each potential Joint Venture partner. Sometimes you can find this information by clicking on the contact links on the website. Remember to collect the information that I told you to collect int he previous post Jeff Wellman’s tips to unlocking the power of Joint Ventures http://www.layoffyourbossmarketing.com/blog/?p=212

Searcfh Whois.net

Another option is to find contact information for a website by running that website through www.whois.net. or you can use http://www.betterwhois.com

Whois.net is a domain-based research center that you can type in the domain name of the website you are on and generally get any contact information you need on the person who registered that particular domain.  At times they may have privacy settings that will not allow you to do this but more often than not you will be able to find good contact information for these site owners.

Find contact information on at least 30 Joint Venture partner possibilities.

Article Directories

Find contact information by following links in the resource box that will lead to the websites of the experts that wrote the article and their contact information, and once again contact the articles author.

Another strategy you could do would be to link your website to the articles you find and then contact the article owner to let them know you have done so.  Now It’s pretty well assumed that no one is going to object to your giving them exposure in this way so why contact them to let them know?

This gives you a reason to call them and make contact.  You just call  the article author and say,  ”I’ve linked to your article is this okay with you?” This gives a great opening to some good old friendly discussion and
maybe the possibility of an exchange of Ideas… if nothing more it opens up a good avenue of relationship building.

Attend Live Seminar Events (Get out and meet people)

OK this should have been the first one I started out with because the number 1 way to create a Joint Venture Partnership certainly is meeting people live in person.

The reason I didn’t start right out with it is because I get the most excuses as to why you cant possibly attend a live seminar event.

Well I am here to tell you one more time that there is no better way to form real partnerships and form relationships than the Face-To-Face meeting…This is where the deals and relationships are made.

I can’t even begin to tell you all of the many ways that attending live events have helped grow my business and my relationships with my Joint Venture Partners.  Without attending a Live Seminar my first product would have fallen way short of what I was able to accomplish with my launch.

I basically was able to create most of the content of product at the live event I attended through interviewing the experts that I found and approached at the event.

Remember you will still need to work on your approach which I discussed in previous post http://www.layoffyourbossmarketing.com/blog/?p=212

Of course there is so much more to just going to the live event as even this can be just  business…

Real JV Partnerships are formed when it actually breaks from the business to, “Hey let’s go have a burger or a drink together,” that’s where relationships are formed.

Whenever I go to seminars and hear speakers being introduced by the host it always starts out I first met This next speaker at a seminar…and one right after another it continues…  “I  met you  at a seminar, I met you at a seminar…” That’s the way it’s done.

To many people just look at live events as a ‘good ol’ boys’ club, and that the Gurus will not be the slightest bit interested in what I have to say anyways. That perception is just totally wrong as I found out very quickly.  I want you to know that  anybody can be a part of this group.

Everybody is welcome to get to know us – we’re very accessible.  You may run across one or two that make you feel like they are better than everyone else there but those are the ones that are not even worth pursuing in the first place.

But you have to do the initiating of the relationship, we’re just not going to do it for you.   I highly
recommend that you go to seminars and get to know myself and other marketers.  Make sure you bring your business cards.

Also another great tactic to use while at these seminars is to have your picture taken with the Gurus you meet.

Get Your Picture Taken With Gurus

Mike Morgan, Jason, DeVelvis, Stuart Tan, Jeff Wellman at JvAlertLve in Philadelphia 2008

I say get a picture with absolutely everyone  that you meet at events and then say, “Can I have your email so I can send you a copy?”  Then I send you back a physical copy of the picture and I sign it.  .

Get an account with sendoutcards.com and create a card and send out to the JV Partner with the picture you had taken with the both of you and let them know what a great time you had.

This is a reminder to the potential JV Partner as to who you are.

As with any of the other suggestions I can give you it is going to take action and dedication on your part.  You can make the decision to use any of these methods, but without action on your part you are like I said before, “dead in the water.”

Until Next post I hope you decide to try out some of these methods.  Please feel free to leave comments or let me know how they worked for you.
