Marketing Online, Becoming A Salesman

So You’re Not Really a Salesperson How to force yourself to become one

You all know the type I’m talking about. The person who can sell anything and whose mouth flows virtual honey, to entice even the most skeptical that they need whatever he’s selling at the moment. I’m talking about the guy that once convinced kids to munch large beetles because they contained so much vitamins, that they would instantly transform themselves into super heroes. Well, I must confess, I’m not that guy. How about you? Do you wake up in the morning intent on selling something for somebody?

Online Marketer Become The salesperson You Need To Become.

Online Marketer Become The salesperson You Need To Become.

Or are you like me, who just wants to get through the day in one piece?

There comes a time when every one of us faces that moment, the realization that we need a change or something different in our lives. Whether it’s a new career or just a need for good old fashion money, eventually we will have to face our fears and try something else. Have you ever gone to bed at night and think to yourself, what am I doing every day? Why aren’t I getting ahead? I had so many dreams when I was younger. I had talents that I never used and now I am in this endless pattern. Even if the pattern is a great life…human nature cries out for something better.

“Have you ever gone to bed at night and think to yourself, what am I doing every day?”

That might be why you are checking out this site. Maybe you are at the place in your life when you need a change. Maybe it’s as small as finding a way to make your hobby profitable or as important as a brand new career. Either way, the fact that you are reading articles about business opportunities on the internet, proves your desire to chart a different path for your life.

So what is stopping you? Perhaps you never considered yourself capable of selling anything. Maybe your complacency is born of fear of the unknown. If you continue to allow doubts to dominate your life, you will continue to wile away your years, never experiencing a new direction in which you are in charge.

Information and practice can truly make a successful salesperson.

Consider the fact that anyone who achieves impressive results, never started out with all the skill, determination and practical understanding required for success. Does a golfer suddenly decide to try out his new clubs and realizes he is gifted enough to join the professional circuit on his first outing? Obviously not, it requires years of learning the proper techniques, coupled with a multitude of hours honing his skill. Likewise, selling in all it forms requires learning what motivates people, the proper ways to present a product and many skills to bring the product to people’s awareness. No matter how instinctive selling is, only information and practice can truly make a successful salesperson.

So let’s dispatch the notion that selling is somehow a genetic disposition and get down to the real truth. Selling is an art created by skill. It is true that some people are more gifted in the area, but are they gifted or have they spent a lot of time learning their craft? Most likely they started out selling lemonade at a stand, gradually learning how to get people to pull out their wallets. The desire to make money is probably what motivated them to learn their craft, plus the fact they didn’t allow fear to stand in the way.

“So let’s dispatch the notion that selling is somehow a genetic disposition and get down to the real truth…”

I’ll confess to you where I’m at in this new arena of life. I do not consider myself a natural born seller. I avoid getting involved in charity events like walkathons, mainly because I cringe at the thought of going door to door asking for pledges. The idea of calling someone and telling them about a product is much worse than going to a dentist. So how can a guy like me get involved with internet sales?

I’ve decided to proceed very slowly and deliberately. There was a wonderful opportunity to write for Jeff Wellman on this site, so I took that step. Once I began writing a few articles, then I was inspired to make a few videos about layoffyourbossmarketing.com.

I am becoming more and more excited about the possibilities of selling something…me the anti-salesman! By having someone to tutor me with facts and encouragement, ideas are beginning to flow and the possibilities of future gain are not so distant now. There is a long way to go, but I am making progress.

So let’s get back to you. You know that you need to do something different…so let’s get started. Let’s do it in small incremental steps, a little at a time. Why not start out by simply entering your email address on this site? No, there’s no obligation, you just receive a free gift that will inform and enlighten, along with emails pointing to exciting new ways to gain information about how to make money on the internet. That’s not too hard is it? Then you can use the information you receive and slowly, systematically, journey to a place more profitable and more enjoyable than where you are today.

You don’t have to wake up and create a fully functioning, multi-million dollar web site today. You just need to adopt a goal, determined to make a deliberate and conscious effort to achieving it. I challenge you to take that first step today.

“By having someone to tutor me with facts and encouragement, ideas are beginning to flow and the possibilities of future gain are not so distant now. “

Break it up into tiny manageable sections

Just as if you would not expect your child to become a master pianist within the first couple of lessons, you shouldn’t have such lofty and unrealistic expectations of yourself. Sometimes we hold ourselves hostage by simply expecting magic results from a wave of our lazy wand. That’s not going to cut it anymore. From now on, we are going to set a final goal, break it up into tiny manageable sections.

By sequentially achieving each section, more confidence will develop and before you know it…you are a salesperson.

You can sell by becoming an affiliate marketer with Jeff Wellman or others. You may even become a business owner someday…but take it slow.

There’s no hurry if you are proceeding, but you’ll never get there if you don’t start now.

How to Run a Successful Webinar

Another great way to package your information or to create content for product creation is by holding a training webinar.

Create a content rich powerpoint on a subject in your niche that you are an expert at and then click record and teach away and instant product creation. (Use a screen capture software such as camtasia and record your presentation and your voice while presenting.)

So what exactly is a webinar?

A webinar is a virtual meeting that mixes the best technologies of telecommunications and Internet presentations.  Look at a webinar as a huge conference call whereby your subscribers can participate not only on the conference phone line, but also participate by following along with the on-line PowerPoint presentation that you have created.

A webinar is a fantastic way to conduct training with your subscribers, or to introduce a new product line that you have.  You can visually show them the advantages and benefits to your product along with audio.

To get started with your webinar you really only need to know one thing.

Keep it simple.  You will need to put together a nicely laid out PowerPoint presentation for your viewers to follow along with.  Don’t get all carried away with a lot of fancy graphics to go with your presentation.

There could be a lot of your participants who may not have the proper web browser to support all of your fancy extras.  Your goal is to teach what you have prepared for the participants, not to get into technical issues.

If you are a Moderator PLEASE Show Up Early

I believe it is only polite to show up early and greet your participants.

If you are inviting your loyal customers to your webinar, I would think you would want to take this opportunity to do some good old fashion relationship building.

When sending out your invitation to your potential participants, it is a good idea to ask all first time webinar participants to show up early to ensure they can figure everything out as how to use the webinar features.

One of my favorite parts of the webinar is when I get to ask the participants to introduce themselves and get to know them.  By doing so I have just done something that is very critical to online Marketing… I opened up 2 way communication.  If you want to build relationships with your customers, and   true relationships, then you must find a way to open up two way communication.  This will help you discover what they are all about, what makes them tick, what they want, what problems they are having that you can create a product to help solve, and a biggie… Build trust in the eyes of your customers towards you the list owner.

I recently listened to a webinar by a very top notch marketer.  I was totally frustrated 5 minutes into the call.  The moderator was not on the call which left a lot of first time visitors trying to figure out what was going on and how they were supposed to use all the features.

There were several hundred people on the line shouting back and forth and over the top of each other trying to direct the poor lost souls on the call.

Just as someone was beginning to make headway, the moderator broke in and started his call.  No greeting, no explanations, no nothing to offer any help.  He had an excellent call and presentation, and offered an excellent product after the presentation.  However, in my eyes the excellence of the presentation was destroyed by the first few minutes of the call when everything was in a frantic state of chaos..

If you want to come across as a professional webinar host, do yourself a big favor.  Be early and take control of YOUR webinar.

I know it is all about automation and how to get away without having to do a lot of work so we resort to just loading up a recorded webinar and letting it play while unsuspecting listeners believe they are listening to the real deal.  I still believe it takes some good honest work and relationship building to really establish yourself as a top notch and reputable online marketer.

If you are going to present a recorded webinar do yourself a big favor and show up to greet your guest and be there at the end to answer any questions they might have and to get to know your loyal customers.

Just my thoughts on the matter and what I found that works best for my business.  Whats your thoughts on attending webinars only to find out it was a recording or show up and never get to be greeted by the host?

Interview – Work Hard Once, Get Paid Over and Over!

Why learn to do an Interview?

Well I could fill several blog posts about the reasons for doing Interviews.  Not only doing interviews but learning to do them properly.

Some of the reasons for doing Interviews are as follows:

  • Create content for Information Products fast and easy
  • Transfer of authority from the expert to you
  • Establish you credibility and you as the expert
  • List Building
  • Build relationships
  • Leverage traffic from experts
  • leverage knowledge from experts
  • Work hard once and get paid over and over

I especially like the last one.  Work hard once and get paid over and over… I am sure you can relate to that also.

When I first started online marketing my biggest problems I had were that I had no knowledge of the Niche I was entering, I was not an established authority, I did not like to write ebooks, and I didn’t have a list and didn’t know how to get traffic to my lists.

When I learned how to do interviews I took care of all these problems all at once.

First off I was able to create excellent content for my products by having the already established experts share their knowledge with myself and the would be soon audience I would have that would be watching my interviews.

During the interviews as I asked the questions I was not only getting content for my products I was also becoming the expert as the expert I was interviewing was transfering  his authority to me just because I was seen with the expert.  Therefor I must be an expert.  We are seen as, or become like those we hang around as most would agree.

After my interviews were over I now had over 8 hours of pure content that each person I interviewed now had a vested interest in the success of my product.

I was able to leverage the fact that these experts were a part of my product which gave them the much needed benefits and incentive to want to promote my product to their list which enabled me to have an abundance of traffic driven to my sales page, which helped me generate over $104,349 in just 30 days with my Layoff Your boss product, and generate a list of over 10,000 subscribers.

Not bad for 8 hours of work! Now the work is over and my list building and sales continue on a daily basis.

Not much of a writer?  Do an Interview… Problem solved!

Not enough content for your Information Products? Do an Interview… Problem Solved!

Not an expert in your Niche?  Do an Interview… Problem Solved!

Not getting traffic to your site?  Do an Interview… Problem Solved!

Just do an Interview and learn to do them well.

Avoid The New Years resolution Failure Trap

Well here we are ready to stand face to face with a brand new year once again.  Many love this time of year as it is an opportunity to reflect on our days past and to consider our future.

Well that means it is time for each of us makes resolutions  It is time to make those commitments to change something about ourselves or the life that has presented itself to us in the out going year.

Well it is very Unfortunate that our resolutions will typically only lasts for a few days and then once again…
You guessed it…we find find ourself right back with the same situation or habits that we swore we would never
visit again.

Why is it that we tend to fail miserably at achieving these resolutions so easily?

I have been doing some thinking on this and I feel it has something that probably falls somewhere between our intent and the realities of life that tend to impose themselves upon us.

New Years is wonderful… The new year is something that marks a brand new beginning. It seems to give us a sense of new hopes and renewed energy.

There is just something about the excitement of the brand new year that compels us to really make some very radical changes in our life.

I have been trying to figure out if this year will be even more dramatic or if we will see less resolutions being made.

On one hand we have been going through some major economic changes in our lives over the past year, talk of recession, job losses, crazy gas prices, home heating, major stock market crashes that are pretty much depleting retirement accounts, major business and industries going under.

OK enough depression I am sure you get the point… Heck you have been living with it in your life the last year.

With all of the craziness going on with the down turn of our economy, many are ready for change and will go looking.

There are those that will charge full force into the New Year filled with hope and excitement and will once again pursue the dreams and goals and they will believe with every ounce of their being that the possibility of positive change is lurking right around the corner.

On the other hand I have talked with those that seem to have given up hope, and really don’t see any possibilities of their hopes and dreams every becoming reality, and really see no sense in making silly New Years resolutions.  Whats the sense…something out of their control will just come along and put out the light once they get it re-lit anyways.

The third person will enter into the New Year with a skeptical and cautious hope.  Wanting it desperatly but not fully believing that it can or will really happen for them.  But just maybe if they hold on long enough they will catch a long awaited lucky break.

One thing in common that all 3 people have is the possibility of failure.

I am sure it is easy to see how person number 2 and 3 will fail but what about the person that is charging full force full of life and enthusiasm into the New Year ahead fully expecting change to happen.

Well I believe that sometimes we get so excited that we lose a bit of perspective, or all sense of reality.  We are forgetting all of the parameters that really tend to govern our lives and the demands of life that are going to be in competition for our attention.

I see this all of the time with students who come all eager to get started making money online thinking it is their time, and as soon as they get into things a little ways they start realizing their job or family is taking so much time that they really don’t see how they can possibly make it work.

They stop attending coaching classes and send me an email after awhile letting me know how sorry they are that they have not been attending but they have just been to tired at the end of the day to pursue a dream.

We think we can take on the world and we really feel we are ready for it but once reality of life sets in, we can become easily discouraged and we lose our focus and hope.

Instead of re-looking at the goals and seeing if there isn’t a better way to go about things, we just say oh well It was just a silly dream anyways and it isn’t like I haven’t broke resolutions in the past.

Sometimes the dream is so big that we forget to put smaller more achievable and measurable steps in place to help us stair step our way to the big goal.  In this case we never see our self making any accomplishments along the way so we once again get discouraged with our progress and we quit.

If you were to add in some smaller achievable steps in-between the start point and the actual realization of your goal you would see your self making progress and soon as you marked off the steps accomplished you would find your self at the point of living what is no longer just a dream…it is reality.

Another reason for failure is that we never tell anyone about our goals and dreams or resolutions as we are calling them today.  By nt telling anyone we can say to ourself, Oh well I can quit and nobody will ever know because I am the only one that knew in the first place.  Hey way to go…you left yourself with a big fat easy out.  Where is the accountability?

Ah nobody likes to be held accountable anyways… so forget that one.  Well forget it only if you want to set yourself up for failure once again.

Maybe you have some thoughts on why we fail at keeping our resolutions.

Maybe you have some advice you can give as an expert New Year’s resolution achiever.

Maybe you can identify with one of the 3 characters above I described.

Will you make a resolution this year? If not why not?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

We would also love to help you out this year and help you get your New Year 2009 off to a brighter start financially.
